AUGUST 2025
This month’s “missive” essentially writes itself. Even so, I would probably have started by going on about the summer weather, the beach, my new implement for securing the bottom of the umbrella in the sand, and my lingering doubts about yellow as a colour for ankle socks, but having a son in Australia (temporarily) reminds me that things may be very different where you are. Not that an Australian “winter” is like winter in Yorkshire or Nebraska, for example – but you know what I mean. And I shouldn’t assume you’re on holiday just because I am.
So, today it’s straight down to business. It could well be that you picked up the novella/novel I published a couple of days ago when it was a tempting freebie on Bookfunnel. If you did and are dying to say nice things about it, I’d be delighted if you could take a moment to express those thoughts in the form of a review! And if you didn’t download it last time, well, it’s (or WAS!) free again from today (Thursday 7 August) until Saturday!
Here’s the link to take you directly to Amazon, wherever you are! Or just click on the (slightly scary?) book cover:

And that’s about it. The world keeps turning. If my stories are dystopian but the current news is equally depressing, does that mean we’re already living in a dystopia? Will AI bring the final apocalypse, or did it already happen, and I missed it? And why am I thinking these thoughts in my summer when the sun is shining and I’ve just washed away the sand from between my toes and am about to go out to lunch in a fancy restaurant?
PS – A couple of months ago I talked about the order of the books and the pairs of novellas sandwiched between the full-length novels. Well, I got it wrong! The “new” release – actually more a short novel than a novella – comes after the Mars story. On the books page you have everything in chronological order.
