About Matthew Kipwell
Matthew Kipwell, 1988 (under the influence of cricket!)

Okay, so it’s taken me a while to get all this together. I taught myself to type on a clickety-clack manual typewriter when I wrote a brief “memoir” from a bedsit in Clapham South way back when, but then the writing was sidelined for many years. Anyone who reads the newsletters/blogs will know about my particular interest in AI, but my own experience of IT started with Fortran and punch cards, when only postgraduates had access to a SCREEN! And I started working from home before we had email in the office! Things have changed alright! But birds are dinosaurs too, and they’re still here!
Anyway, here’s a very brief bio:
Storyline
Prehistory
Watched Neil Armstrong walk on the Moon live on good ol’ black and white TV, wrote a letter to Patrick Moore about Saturn’s rings and then studied civil engineering and Chinese martial arts.
Post-classical history
Worked as a water engineer in Malawi and then for VSO in Sudan.
Early modern era
MSc in what they used to call ‘Computer Studies’ and then twenty years as a systems analyst/programmer. Captained a cricket team and sort of learned to play drums.
Late modern era
Schizophrenic existence over ten years as a freelance technical translator by day and author of the Backdoor Angels series of novels and short stories by night (and sometimes during the day).
Contemporary
Full-time writer in the process of completing the publication of five novels and six or seven short stories between March 2022 and June 2026. And then what?
